*****COMPLETE REVIEW NOW***** The below review was based on only 25% of this book. I have since finished and I have decided to upgrade to a 2 star review. Let me say though, the story did pick up, but the pace was still too slow! I'm a fan of the main character and will consider reading the next book because of the character, but if during reading of the next book I find the same slow issue, I will discontinue reading as this will appear to be the way the author writes. That's his decision and I respect it, I just don't enjoy that style.
**This is a partial review; I'm at 25% and am seriously thinking of stopping right now. This book was already way too slow and not at all holding my attention at this point, but then the author decides to give one of the side characters the name of a pretty famous actor. I know, I know; there are many people with the same name all over this Earth. But surely he could have chosen some other name; I mean Jeremy Renner is now a well known actor. Why couldn't the author change his first name?? Sorry, this just bugs me.
Regardless of this issue, the story is just too slow to develop. I'm hoping this will pick up. I will continue based on the other 5 star reviews.**
A so-so adventure story involving clandestine CIA types.
Good story and a good read
I really enjoyed this novel. Filled with twists and turns and enough betrayal to make your head swim. Very well written and a most intriguing end. Looking forward to the next one.
“Betrayal at Angkor Wat An Alex Asher Novel” is not my usual kind of book. I lean more towards fantasy or Romance, themes that this book scoffs at – and with good reason. While not my normal forte, Rocky Cole has succeeded in broadening my literary horizons with this fast paced thriller.
Take everything you love about ‘Mission Impossible,’ condense it, add a dash of ‘Speed,’ a heaping helping of ‘007,’ mix it all up and you have Alex Asher, a CIA and MI6 operative schooled in arts more shadowy than most of Hollywood can devise. I mention all these movies and styles just to give you a glimpse of the world and action our main character resides in; but rest assured, this tale is NOT all the aforementioned… no, this actually makes sense, without having to stretch your imagination or credulity too far.
Well written and crafted, Cole has created a quick moving story with incredible action and developed characters. I highly recommend this to any fans of Espionage, Spy Thrillers, International Intrigue and to anyone looking to expand their current literary tastes.
Maybe it's a market thing but name dropping gadgets by brand repeatedly is common for this author as well as acronyms and naming them out.
The story was ok, not many surprises and most of the reveals were more like an after action report.
Overall decent idea, but the author needs to level up his writing tradecraft a bit.
I always enjoy reading this type of books, and Betrayal at Angkor Wat is a great addition to that.
The captivating twist and turns will keep you glued, combined with well defined characters, fast paced action. the book is definitely worth every penny I spent. my very first book from the Author Rocky Cole, and is definitely awesome and for the price, is like jackpot
